MW169 was given to General de Gaulle by Winston Churchill in the summer of 1945. He may not have used it much himself since he also received a C-54, 44-9148, from President Truman. The aircraft wears regular French roundels on the wings and the Free French Cross of Lorraine on the fuselage; the latter was removed at some point. MW169 transferred to the French navy in 1954. The C-45F Expeditor on the right, 44-86905, was remanufactured with a new serial in 1952. Photo by: Rudy Arnold / Smithsonian Institution
