According to the Air Force Museum of New Zealand this is one of the nine Hurricanes supplied to 488 Squadron by 232 Squadron RAF in the dying days of the defence of Singapore. In little more than a week after receiving the first aircraft on January 24, 1942, 488 Sqn had withdrawn to the Dutch East Indies. BM899 remained behind, struck off charge by the RAF as lost in Singapore.
