W Leo Schuth, in suit, started Valley Flying Service in 1939. After Pearl Harbor he became the commander of the local CAP unit. Schuth and a trainee pilot, the son of one of his mechanics, lost their lives in a Luscombe crash on 7 April 1944. The airfield became Pine Valley Airpark in 1948 and later the USAF Academy Airfield. The Cub was deregistered on 18 August 1948. Photo from: Pikes Peak Library District This photo was added on 3 December 2021, and has since been viewed 499 times. |
