VT268 was later converted to a drone and shot down in 1961. RAF Fayid was abandoned by the RAF in 1956 and became an Egyptian air force base. In the 1980s the EAF moved a short distance to Fayed air force base built by the USAF. The RAF station is slowly being reclaimed by the sand.
