The Yak-36 'Freehand' was a Soviet technology demonstrator for a VTOL combat aircraft. Four prototypes were built, the first of which was used only for static testing. This is the second protoype but the first to get airborne and is now on display at the Central Museum of the Air Forces at Monino. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
