Bob Schreiner wanted a heliport at the Malieveld, a central open space in his native The Hague. A trial flight was made to the Shell oil refinery in Pernis, in the port of Rotterdam. The 'Red Elephant' building in the background was Esso's by the way, not Shell's. A newspaper wrote that the entire area had been fenced off as if a mass landing by a whole fleet of helicopters was expected. The city of The Hague was not enthusiastic and AMS - RTM passenger service trials later in 1958 using a Vertol 44 - see photo 289447 - had to skip the Malieveld stop.
