This UC-78 was TOC by the USAAF as 43-31827 but crashed due to engine failure at Upper Heyford in 1944. After the end of the war Poland bought 21 surplus Bobcats, of which 14 were returned to service, including this example by PZL at Mielec, and the rest used for spares. This plane went on to fly for LOT as SP-GEM and then in 1952 for the Instytut Lotnictwa (Institute of Aviation) as SP-GLC. After decommissioning in 1967, SP-GLC was handed over to the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego and is on display in its Instytut Lotnictwa colour scheme. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
