This Aardvark was built as a F-111A and was accepted into the USAF in February 1965 . It was loaned to General Dynamics to be used as a test bed for the MK-1 NAV/Attack system and thento to Pratt and Whitney as an engine/intake test bed. In December 1969 it was transported by ground to 3345th Maintenance and Supply Group (Air Training Command) at Chanute AFB and re-designated as a GF-111A. By 1974 it was retired and on display at the base, formerly joining the Octave Chanute Museum in 1993. After the museum closed the plane found a new home at the Lake County Veterans Memorial at Waukegan, IL. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
