A successor to the Ouragan and Mystère II, this prototype made its first flight in September, 1952. The aircraft entered service with the AdlA in 1955 and was exported to India and Israel. This is the plane that broke the sound barrier for the first time in France, in a dive in January 1953, during its 34th flight. In memory of this episode, the pilot had a broken wall painted on the plane's nose. This photo is copyright © Alastair T. Gardiner, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
