No 85 Sqn was sent to France on the outbreak of WWII and withdrawn to RAF Castle Camps on 23 May 1940. British sources say this photo was taken there in July. P2923 / VY-R was shot down on 'the hardest day', 18 August 1940. Pilot Richard Lee was last seen chasing three Bf 109s.
