NZ4111 struck rocks taking off from the lagoon on November 4, 1959. The pilot quickly taxied into shallow water. Next day a team arrived in another Sunderland to assess damage and this photo is believed to be that day. In 1960 NZ4111 was stripped of its engines before being hauled up on the shore with its tail hacked off. The RNZAF museum sent a team in 1993 to recover more of the aircraft. They took away the floats and turret but fuselage and wings had been incorporated into sheds. Parts of the fuselage have since been reassembled. Photo from: Air Force Museum of New Zealand
