In August 1940 the USAAC joined in the development of radio-controlled target aircraft for training anti-aircraft artillery gunners. These unmanned targets would be controlled by radio signals from the ground or a 'mother' aircraft but would be able to be manually flown for ferry flights or check flights. This example, wearing a typical high-vis WWII scheme, is on display at the National Museum of the USAF. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
