The civilian predecessor of the Blenheim, the Bristol 142, was derived from the Type 135 design which was to have Bristol Aquila engines. The bigger Mercury engine was chosen for the Type 142. One example was built of this Aquila-powered variant. The aircraft was used as a testbed for the Aquila which was cancelled. G-ADEK not taken up and Bristol test registration R-14 used.
