This Wildcat is on display at the Flying Leathernecks museum at MCAS Miramar, although it is actually on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola. It is painted to represent Wildcat 'Black 53' flown by Joe Foss at Guadalcanal, who ended WWII as the Marine Corps second highest ranking ace with 26 victories. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
