This was the first C-8A Buffalo built, with US Army s/n 63-13686. It was converted into the C-8A/AWJSRA (Augmentor Wing Jet STOL Research Aircraft) for NASA, who operated it from 1969 through 1981 (FAA registration). It was the world's first jet STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) transport demonstrator. In 1981 it was exported to Canada and registered C-CFIU, and was scrapped in the late 1980s.The nickname Bisontennial was a spoof on the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial.
