The XB-35 made its first flight in June 1946 from Hawthorne to Muroc (now Edwards AFB). It had a troubled flight test program that saw it grounded several times. In September 1947 it was grounded to be fitted with single rotation propellers in place of the contra-rotating ones in the photo. B-35 program was cancelled and the prototype scrapped in 1949 followed soon after by cancellation of the jet-powered B-49. Photo from: National Archives at College Park, Maryland
