The Yak-141 'Freestyle was intended as a supersonic, VTOL aircraft for air defence of the Soviet fleet. Four prototypes were produced before the program was cancelled with this example making the first (conventional) flight and the first vertical landing on a carrier. It is now on display at the Central Museum of the Air Forces at Monino. This photo is copyright © Alastair T. Gardiner, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
