In May 1966 this Starfighter was damaged beyong repair at RAF Gütersloh when it made an emergency tailwind landing after developing engine problems (open nozzle). The netbarrier at the end of the runway did not catch the aircraft, rathe ripped off the landing gear. Fortunately, although injured, the pilot survived.
