The remains of the original Fokker D.XXI 229 were placed in a tube construction. The fighter was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf-109 near Nieuwkoop (NL) on 11 May 1940. The pilot, Roos, managed to survive. The Fokker was excavated from the soft soil on 12 June 1993. It can be seen in the CRASH museum in Aalsmeerderbrug (NL) Part of the wreckage served as a mould for the reconstruction of airworthy Fokker D.XXI PH-XXI This photo is copyright © Gert Jan Mentink, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
