The remains of the original Fokker D.XXI 229 were placed in a tube construction. The fighter was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf-109 near Nieuwkoop (NL) on 11 May 1940. The pilot, Roos, managed to survive. The Fokker was excavated from the soft soil on 12 June 1993.
