This N3N is on display at the super Udvar-Hazy Center of the NASM but was previously part of the Naval Academy's training squadron at Annapolis, Maryland. The N3N nickname of the 'Yellow Peril' derived from the aircraft's propensity to ground loop on landing as the narrow landing gear did not provide much lateral stability at higher touchdown speeds. These seaplanes, when retired in 1961, were the last biplanes retired from US military service. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
