Only a few years after the MD.415 Communauté, Dassault designed another unsuccesful light transport and trainer at the request of the French air force, designated MD.320 Hirondelle (swallow), which first flew on 11 September 1968. It was slightly smaller than the similar Jetstream. By May 1969 the Astazou engines of the sole prototype were mounted higher on the wing. By then the Armée de l'Air had already lost its interest.
