This is the only P-23 built. Curtiss retained the last P-6E Hawk (32-278) at their factory, and completed it with a new monocoque aluminum fuselage. Also new were the nose, tail surfaces and landing gear. It was fitted with a turbo-supercharged G1V-1570-C engine with a 3-bladed prop. The new aircraft was delivered on 16 April 1932 and designated XP-23 (Curtiss model 63). It was redesignated YP-23 when the turbo-supercharger was removed. Unfortunately by then the USAAC had lost interest in biplane designs, and no orders were placed. The YP-23 was dropped from USAAC inventory in January 1936. Official USAAC photo.
