Built by Percival Spencer and engineer Vincent Larsen at Farmingdale, Long Island, in May 1938. Amassed only 10 hours before it was dismantled but succeeded in visiting several airfields in close proximity to Farmingdale. Spencer made a second attempt at an amphibious flying boat in 1940, the Spencer Air Car. That design was sold to Republic and developed as the Seabee.
