Based in Nome, Alaska, Munz Northern Airways ran from 1962 until 1983 when sold to Ryan Air of Anchorage in 1982. The airline operated a mixed fleet made up mainly of Islanders but also Pilatus Turbo Porters, Dornier Do28s and Grand Commanders. N1702L was eventually cancelled from the US Register in April 2011.
