Construction commenced as Victa Airtourer c/n 171 but was completed by AESL in New Zealand as c/n 501 after it bought the rights to the aircraft. ZK-COZ was the third of four incomplete aircraft that were part of the deal but the first to get an AESL c/n. ZK-COZ crashed near Wanganui on March 13, 1979.
