This Hoplite was originally intended for Aeroflot as CCCP-15842 but went instead to the Instytut Lotnictwa as SP-PSC in May 1967 and was displayed at the Paris Air Show. The frame went on to fly with Zeus and Heliseco. In August 2005 it crashed into a lake whilst on a fire-fighting mission (the pilot survived) because the bucket was filled with mud and was too heavy. The wreck was recovered from the lake and superficially repaired for display. Around late 2006 it was placed in front of the Police (the name of the town, not a law-enforcement agency) fire station as a billboard. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
