Formed as a P-40 Warhawk pursuit squadron in January 1941, the 65th was inactivated at the end of August 1945. Reactivated in August 1946 and operated since P-51s, F-80B/C, F-94s, F-89s, F-100 and A-7s. When it became an agressor squadron in the late seventies it received F-5s. The 65th flew their last aggressor flight in the Tiger II on 7 April 1989 and was deactivated. Reactivated again in September 2005, flying F-15C/Ds.
