Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista built almost 800 of the type, based on the Taylor Cub, between 1942 and 1948 as the CAP-4. Neiva acquired the manufacturing rights in 1956 and built 256 as the Paulistinha 56C as well as 60 P-56 Agricolas until production ended in 1964. The type has been widely used by aeroclubs all over Brazil for many years. PP-GST was built by Neiva in 1962.
