The RF-101 was the first supersonic photo-reconnaisance aircraft and this particular example was one of the planes responsible for obtaining the images confirming that the missiles sites were being dismantled and so brought an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis. It subsequently served with the 45th TRS in Southeast Asia and then the 153rd TRS at Key Field, MS from where it was ferried to the National Museum of the USAF during Oct. 78 for display.
