Dedication of the new New York Municipal Airport, with aircraft of American, TWA, United and Canadian Colonial Airways in attendance. Commercial flights started on 2 December 1939. Floyd Bennett Field was too far from Manhattan. Campaigning for a new airport, mayor Fiorello La Guardia had refused to leave a TWA plane at Newark in New Jersey, arguing he had a ticket for New York.
