On display in front of the original "temporary" National Naval Aviation Museum building. This was the first D-558-1 built, and conducted 101 test flights. It set a world speed record of 640.6 MPH on 20 August 1947 with CDR Turner Caldwell, USN flying. This Skystreak, although transferred to NACA, was never flown by them. Retired April 1949. It is on display in the atrium of the current NNAM main building. This photo is copyright © Bob Thomas, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
