Prototype of a 'personal helicopter' designed by Lewis McCarty and built by De Lackner Helicopters from New York. The US Army ordered a dozen examples of the DH-5 Aerocycle model. Its military designation YHO-2 was soon changed to HZ-1 in a category of its own. It was hoped that the craft could be flown by soldiers after a brief instruction, but it wasn't that easy and obviously the rotor was extremely dangerous to the pilot and bystanders alike.
