The City of Oakland Police Department Helicopter Unit operates two MD Helicopters 500Es, N510PD (pictured) and N220PD built in 1990 and 1993 respectively. The Oakland Police have operated helicopters for more than 50 years and previously flew Hughes 269s. On October 2 1973, an Oakland Police Hughes 269C crashed on Fruitvale Avenue as a result of a mechanical failure and claiming the lives of two officers. This photo is copyright © Kenneth I.
