The second prototype of the Chase XG-20 assault glider was rebuilt as the XC-123A, America's first jet transport aircraft, first flown on 21 April 1951. The four J47 turbojets burnt too much fuel, but the XC-123 with two piston engines was ordered into production. C-123 production was eventually taken over by Fairchild. Photo probably taken at Trenton - Mercer, New Jersey. Photo by: Hank Walker / Life This photo was added on 14 May 2024, and has since been viewed 1162 times. |
