On its way to the Volkel runway during a shooting camp. This dual seat Hornet carried 439 Sabre-Toothed Tiger squadron marking on its tail. In February 1987, a fuel bowser hit the Hornet on the ground. The aircraft was repaired and on 4 May 1987 it made a test flight. During that flight, the Hornet went into a unexpected and uncontrolled tailspin over Renchen (Germany). The pilots were not able to recover it and decided to eject. The Hornet was destroyed, both pilots were safe. This photo is copyright © Stephan de Bruijn, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
