A special mission for Franeker. Thai Prince Paribatra was exiled to the Netherlands East Indies following a coup in Thailand in 1932. He died in 1944 in Bandung, then under Japanese occupation. His remains were flown back to Thailand by the KLM plane. Franeker crashed in India on 12 July 1949. Among the 45 dead were 15 American journalists who had just made a trip through the Indonesian islands, paid for by the Dutch government to convince them of the justness of Dutch colonial policy.
