This Wessex was delivered to the Rpyal Australian Navy in September 1962. On 8 August 1989, the helicopter was damaged beyond repair while it was running on deck at HMAS Success during an intermediate stop. Due to ground resonance, the the left-hand undercarriage radius arm collapsed and all four rotor blades struck the flight deck. The helicopter was written off and restored for display. It arrived at the Darwin museum in November 1989. This photo is copyright © Jonathan Verschuuren, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
