A total of 420 Skyrays were built, taking advantage of delta-wing design research captured from Germany at the end of WWII and serving from 1956 till 1964. It was the first Navy aircraft to exceed Mach 1 in level flight. The livery is that of the Douglas Aircraft Testing Division as it was in 1961.
