Built as a F4H-1 by McDonnell at Saint Louis and redesignated F-4B in 1962. With VF-301 in 1975 and upgraded to F-4N. To VMFA-323 then VF-21 'Freelancers' and deployed aboard USS Ranger and USS Coral Sea. Written off on the latter carrier in January 1981. Preserved at San Diego then at Champlin Fighter Museum here at Falcon Field till that closed in 2003. Whilst many of their aircraft went to the Museum of Flight in Seattle, this Phantom stayed at Mesa and looks superb displayed in its colourful period markings This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
