On 13th September 1989, immediately after take off from Netheravon, Wiltshire the port cyclic servo jack failed causing the nose to pitch up and the tail rotor to strike the ground. The nose then pitched down and the aircraft rotated into the ground. Fortunately, the three passengers and the pilot were uninjured. The helicopter was deemed to be beyond economic repair and stored at Wroughton until allocated for ground instruction at the Army's School of Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering at EGVP. It was later rebuilt to static display standards, and is now a gate-guard for the museum. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
