Built in 1951 as L-18C Super Cub military serial 51-15391, this aircraft was one of hundreds of Super Cubs provided to European countries under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program, in this case going to French Army Light Aviation (ALAT) as serial 181391 (its c/n), radio call F-MAKD. It was civilianised in 1968 firstly as OO-HMT and then in 1970 OO-PIU, before being sold to the UK as G-BHOM in March 1980. When photographed it had recently been restored wearing in period ALAT markings. (With thanks to the late Joe Baugher's excellent US Military Serials web site).
