Delivered on 11 Mar 1945, and retired from service in Sep 1955. In 1962 this Texan was sold to Paul Tallmantz as N7446C, who converted it into a Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero replica. As such it starred in several movies, including "Tora, Tora, Tora" in the late 1960s and "Midway" in the mid 1970s. It then went through several other owners, before being donated to the USAF Museum in 1986 and placed on display at the Texas Museum of Military History, which became the Linear Air Park in 1991. It is now displayed in the markings of Avenger Field at Sweetwater (TX). This photo is copyright © Aad van der Voet, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
