The 1978 Helicopter Association of America (HAA) annual convention was held at San Diego's Town and Country Resort Hotel boarding Interstate 8. The adjacent golf course became a heliport for a few days where helicopter manufacturers provided flight demonstrations to prospective customers and media. This is third prototype Bell 222, N222AX, on the golf course in late January. The prototype Model 222 (N9988K) first flew on August 13, 1976 and the 222 received its FAA Type Certificate on August 16, 1979. This aircraft was later withdrawn from use and its fate is unknown.
