The Master III was powered by the Pratt and Whitney R-1535. This was the 3rd engine type for the Master after the original RR Kestrel went out of production and there was a shortage of Bristol Mercury engines. After evaluation by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, W8437 served with No. 5 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit at Ternhill, Shropshire. Photo from: Imperial War Museums
