R9816 was an RAF Anson I that was converted to an Anson IV at Woodford by exchanging the Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah engines for Wright R-975 Whirlwinds. After testing in the UK, it was shipped Canada where it received the serial 10257. Canadian produced Ansons were fitted with Jacobs L-6 and Pratt and Whitney R-985 radials to avoid transatlantic transport vulnerabilities. The Wright powered model remained a one-off. Note that some sources incorrectly state that the conversion to an Anson IV took place in Canada.
