This former WWII Lufwaffe base was taken over by the US Army and used during the Cold War to monitor the Czechoslovakian border. After the Bundeswehr took over the site in 1966, the barracks were used to house panzer units The air base was used by the Army Aviation Corps. The base no longer has an active runway and is used only by medivac helicopter training. This Huey is preserved on the base grounds close to the main entrance, This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
