This HU-16 was delivered to the USAF in 1954 and assigned to the 41st ARS at Hamilton AFB, CA. In 1964 it was transferred to the 33rd ARS at Naha AB, Okinawa, making numerous SAR deployments to Vietnam. It was finally retired in 1971 and became one of the first aircraft placed at the Museum of Aviation in 1983. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
