Operated by the 463rd TAW, this C-130 was destroyed in a crash at Fort Bragg NC on 9 August 1989 when the Sheridan tank it was dropping as a Heavy Equipment load hung-up. Three 28' extraction chutes were deployed, slowing the plane rapidly. Crew put gear and flaps down in an attempt to land on Sicily DZ and impacted berm along a sunken road at the end of the Drop Zone. Loadmaster was killed when the aircraft hit while he was attempting to get around the tank to cut the extraction line.
