Deployed from homebase Jacksonville ANGB, this F-16 participated in a live shooting camp at Tyndall. The 159th FIS flew the F-106 for 12 years and like most F-106 FIS', was planned for transition to F-4 or F-15, but the USAF decided that the F-16 was the most ideal a/c for the continental air defense mission. So the unit received the F-16 from Jan'87. On 1 Apr'87, the 159th became the first F-16 unit to sit alert in an Air Defense role as a FIS on a 24/7/365 basis. In Jun'92, the FIS became a Fighter Squadron. 0759 was former TJ, HR before 159th, then Oregon ANG, since Oct'07 pres Medford (OR) This photo is copyright © Stephan de Bruijn, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
