This aircraft at the time of the photo was an original DL3 model, equipped with the Lycoming LTP-101 turboprop engines. The D identified the fourth main model of the aircraft family, and the L3 the third series of Lycoming engines used by Piaggio. On 13 June 2005, at Le Bourget, Piaggio showcased to Italian officials the first aircraft modified as DP1 (photo ID 491105) for Guardia di Finanza (the Italian Custom Police). The aircraft was re-engined with Pratt & Whitney PT6A-121 engines and so the model changed to DP1, P1 meaning first use of a P&W engine.
